two winemaking areas that are well known to wine connoisseurs: Colli Orientali
and the Collio, which boast celebrities such as Tocai Friulano, Ribolla
Gialla and the rare Picolit. Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Pinot grigio are also
fine international varieties along with some reds of excellent quality and taste
such as Cabernet, Schiopettino, Refosco, Merlot and the rare Pignolo.
Our tour starts in Udine itself, leaving the city to the north in direction
of Tarcento and Nimis, home of an elegant and fragrant white dessert wine (Ramandolo).
We then proceed towards Cividale del Friuli driving along a spectacular
route, which runs along excellent wine estates and beautiful castles. A stop
in this charming little city is a must, if only to taste Gubana, a typical delicious
dessert. Along the way a brief diversion can be made south to Buttrio

"The Little Vienna by the Sea": Trieste
and the Miramare Castle
Breakfast to the Hotel and departure to Trieste.
Come and discover with us the Middle-European city of Trieste and the beautiful

of its wild rocks, the blue sea and the green hills that surround it. We'll
approach the town along its coast road, which appears perfectly inserted in
the surrounding territory and offers a breathtaking view that stretches as far
as the Istrian Coast.
Trieste has a rich historical and cultural background, in particular during
the 17th and 19th centuries as port and trading center of vital importance for
the economy of the Hapsburg empire. As we stroll around, you can see that history
and images of the past are still living through all the ruins, monuments, streets
and buildings scattered around the town.
To discover the roots of Trieste, we'll reach its historical heart, the Capitol
Hill, site of the ancient Roman Ruins, which include the theatre, the
forum and an Augustan Triumphal Arch. We'll then admire the Castle and
the Cathedral of San Giusto, a pleasant old town, an elegant seafront
with exquisite palaces of remarkable architectural value, many being Neo-Classical,
and Italy's largest square overlooking the sea, Piazza Unità d'Italia.
These are the highlights of our morning in Trieste, along with a brief stop
at one of Trieste's historic cafes, which used to be cultural, ethnical and
political meeting points in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
